Welcome!In creating this website my intention is to help you have an idea how therapy works, and get some sense of me and my style of work, so that you are better equipped to take the important step of choosing a therapist.
My main goal as a therapist is to help you increase awareness of your feelings, thought processes, and aspirations, and expand your choices so that you live a happier and more fulfilled life. Why therapy? Life can be very challenging, and we all develop our unique coping mechanisms as ‘Creative adjustments’ to our circumstances. For example you may have learnt that appearing tough protected us from ridicule, or that being quiet and non-threatening was the safest way to avoid conflict, or that looking after others would get us the love we need. As you grow up, the same coping mechanisms that helped you get the most out of your circumstances in the past, may prove less effective or may actually hinder you. The task of therapy is to identify what attitudes serve you well and need keeping, and what other ways of being may support you better, and are worth developing. So you may experiment with showing your vulnerability, or telling the therapist frankly when you disagree with them, or looking after yourself for once. |
